US- UK forces at Syrian-Jordanian border

UNITED STATES DEPLOYING FORCES AT SYRIAN-JORDANIAN BORDER – REPORTS

10 April, 2017

Reports are circulating that  yesterday the US army made some very unusual movement at the Syrian-Jordanian border, north of Jordan’s Al-Mafraq Governorate.
Local sources said that about 20 US Army armoured vehicles (including battle tanks and artillery pieces) carried on trucks were spotted in Al-Mafraq. US troops were allegedly accompanied with the Jordanian Army’s 3rd Division.
Menawhile, ISIS carried out a large attack against the US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the Syrian desert. The US and Jordanian special forces took part in repelling of this attack. Locals from Al-Mafraq have talked about hearing a large number of explosions and jets flying on the Syrian side of the border.
The US Special Operation Forces, the UK Special Operation Forces and units from some other countries have been conducting operations across the Syrian-Jordanian border for a long time. However, it was the first time when a notable number of US amoured vehicles was spotted there.
Some experts describe this as indication that the US is preparing a military operation against ISIS in this area.
It’s important to note that the US Ro-Ro ship Liberty Passion had arrived to the Jordanian port of Al-Aqapa few days ago. This event followed a meeting between the Jordanian King and the US president. These two facts support the idea that the US-led coalition could launch an anti-ISIS operation in southern Syria from the direction of the Syrian-Jordanian border. The goal of the operation will likely be to get control over the Syrian-Iraqi border and to reach Deir Ezzor. The operation will involve FSA members trained in camps in Jordan and the US-led coalition’s forces.
SF forecasted a possibility of this option in March:

U.S. Tanks Enter Syria from Jordan

ISIS launched a surprise offensive on the Tanf Border Crossing between Syria and Iraq following a powerful car bomb attack on the border outpost which killed three insurgents from the FSA’s Osoud al-Sharqiyah (Lions of the East).
US-backed Syrian rebels were quickly surrounded by a group of ISIS fighters who have prowessed desert warfare and maneuvers prompting US and Jordanian troops to intervene hurriedly to lift the pressure off their Syrian allies. Some 20 US tanks and armored vehicles were allegedly involved in repelling the ISIS assault.
Jordanian jets were seen by eye witnesses; though it remains unknown whether airstrikes were carried out. Whether this is a minor intervention limited to protecting FSA fighters allied to the US-led Coalition or a prelude to a much more expansive operation aimed at expelling the Islamic State terror group from the Syrian Badiyah (desert) is yet to be seen.

Notably, a US-led effort last year with the now-disintegrated New Syrian Army (NSA) to seize Al-Mayadeen faltered pathetically as ISIS captured dozens of fighters, armored vehicles, and US equipment following a swift counterattack
